WHY I GRIND
My name is Nicolas Rowan. I am an 11th grade class of 2019 scholar/athlete at Madison-Ridgeland Academy (MRA) in Madison, MS. I am dual enrolled at MRA and Mississippi College. My cumulative grade point average is 4.0 from both my freshman and sophomore years and I am a member of the National Honor Society. I received the President’s Award for Excellence in Education. Starting the summer of 2015 -2017 I have earned over 100 hours of community service hours and am currently a member of City of Madison MS Mayor’s Youth Council.
PROGRESS REPORT
I participated in the Math Competition at the Mississippi School of Sciences and Math in Columbus, MS. Sometimes I help my classmates with their homework. I enjoy being able to help others. I like problem solving and learning about many different topics. I enjoy reading, coaching, acting, fishing and mentoring young athletes.
During my sophomore season I came into summer camp with a weight of 320 lbs. This summer camp I came in at 285 lbs. (about 35 lbs. lighter). During the off season, I trained hard and worked on my hands and feet placement, I attended football camps (FSU, UAB, ULM, USM, Miss. St, Ole Miss and Memphis) to improve my football skills, I also improved in squats, bench press, dead lift and power clean. I am currently leading all my teammates in all categories.
I am a member of the MRA Varsity Football team OL. I have lettered both my freshman and sophomore years. I participate in other extra-curricular activities such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. My team was the second runner up in the MAIS Class 4A State Football Championship. I was the team manager for the MRA and MAIS Class 4A and overall State Championship Basketball team. I am a member of the MRA track team (shot put) and MAIS 4A State Champions. I enjoy learning my craft and being a student of the game that I love.
My parents have always encouraged me to do my best. That is the way that I can reach my fullest potential. For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of becoming a medical doctor. To make this dream a reality, I know that it will take hard work, persistence, sacrifices, and dedication, all of which I am willing to do to achieve my goal.
I believe that sports will help me to become better prepared for the world. I also believe that participating in athletics will help me in other areas and prepare me for life. I look forward to all the knowledge I will get from each class as I strive to continue to achieve academic excellence. It means a lot to me in following and fulfilling my dream to become a medical doctor and a better person.
