WHY I GRIND
Coaches,
I am very grateful that I’ve grown up in caring, disciplined and competitive family. My parents have been showing and telling me about the importance of work ethic ever since I can remember. I have an older brother that is 4 years older than me who played competitive football and baseball so I have been going to sports events since I was 3. My parents discipline, work ethic and growing up around sports is and was very influential in my life.
I started playing flag football when I was in 1st grade and have played competitively ever since. I can’t remember a time when I haven’t played football or when I haven’t looked forward to starting the season. I remember playing in my first tackle game and how nervous I was. It used to be butterflies, and I still sometimes get then but I can’t wait for the “Friday Night” excitement every week.
Football has taught me more than I can say, but mostly it has taught me commitment, passion, camaraderie, and goal setting. I have high academic goals for my years in high school that include earning a perfect 4.0 GPA, a 31 on my ACT, graduating with a honors diploma and top 10% in my class. My college academic goal right now is to graduate with a bachelor’s degree and then pursue a masters degree.
I have been blessed in my life with regards to minimum obstacles. But one I would talk about is that when I was younger, I was very very shy. I believe I overcame this partly because of the experiences I have had and continue to have on the football field.
Grit. That’s what my high school coaches preach to us every day. I think that is a good word to describe my uniqueness. I am 6’3, 285 pounds as a 16 year old junior. So far this year I have faced a number of defensive ends that have already received D1 football offers. I have not only held my own against them but have dominated them on the field! I’ve done this through my athleticism and my GRIT. I have the determination to WIN every play and protect my QB.
