Brett Nezat is Getting it Done

By Joyce Oscar

Getting his pass off really fast and seeing over the line isn’t a hard task for prototypical quarterback Brett Nezat who is already 6’4″ and 190 lbs. A freshman at Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, Alabama, Brett models his style after Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck. “I am a pocket passer with a strong-arm and the potential to run when necessary,” says Brett.  He considers his biggest strength, aside from being 6’4″, to be his accuracy and understanding of coverage. The past two seasons his completion percentage has been over 80%. He attributes thisBrett Nezak bb success to a coaching staff that ‘keeps him well prepared’.

What Brett does in the off-season also keeps him prepared. Spring and summer breaks are filled with training, exposure and recruiting camps. He has visited Samford University, University of Louisville, University of Florida, Florida State, Southern Miss, Vanderbilt, South Alabama and Western Kentucky. He was also a part of the NUC Showcase and the VTO Elite 100 camps.

Brett has played both baseball and football since he was 4-years-old. “I feel like baseball helps with my arm strength and upper body control. It also keeps me conditioned in the football off-season.”  Brett also plays basketball to stay conditioned while allowing his arm to rest.  “I really believe the 3 sports together make me a better all around athlete at each sport.”  Each of these sports have strengths. However, football is his passion. He loves the game and it is the one he would like to continue playing in college and possibly further. That dream may be closer than Brett thinks. Coaches from Southern Miss, Samford, Troy, Ball State, Western Kentucky and Valdosta State have all shown interest in this 2020 phenomenon.
