Nicolas Rowan of Madison, Mississippi is an All-American scholar, athlete and actor. He is a 10th grader on track to graduate in the Class of 2019 from Madison-Ridgeland Academy (MRA). Rowan is a distinguished member of the National Honor Society thanks to his cumulative grade point average of 4.0. He is also the proud recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Education. If these accolades were not enough, Rowan has participated in the Math Competition at the Mississippi School of Sciences and Math in Columbus, MS. He shares his knowledge by assisting his classmates with their homework. He said “I enjoy being able to help others. I like problem solving and learning about many different topics. I enjoy reading, coaching, acting, fishing and mentoring young athletes.”
Rowan began his high school career as a three-sport athlete. He played on the Division 5A varsity team as an Offensive Guard. He received all-district and all-region honors at the end of the season. He was also a member of the 9th-grade basketball team and threw shot put and discus on the track team. Rowan participated in the 2016 Freshman Diamond All-American Bowl and earned the MVP on Defense (Team White). In early 2017, he was invited and participated in the National Army Combine in San Antonio, TX. In his sophomore year, he is concentrating on football. His regimen includes training five days a week to strengthen his skills and fundamentals. He takes delight in learning his craft and being a student of the game he loves.
Rowan thanks his parents for always encouraging him to do his best. “That is the way that I can reach my fullest potential,” he said. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of becoming a medical doctor. In order to make this dream a reality, I know that it will take hard work, persistence, sacrifices, and dedication, all of which I am willing to do in order to achieve my goal.”
Rowan believes that sports will help him to become better prepared for the world. He believes that participating in athletics will help him in other areas and prepare him for life. “I look forward to all of the knowledge I will get from each class as I strive to continue to achieve academic excellence. It means a lot to me in following and fulfilling my dream to become a medical doctor and a better person.”
If being a scholar/athlete was not enough for Nicolas Rowan, he will be starring in the lead role in his school’s production of Beauty and the Beast in April 2017. It is evident that Rowan is focused and doing all he deems necessary to achieve his goals.
