Roger Clyde Burns Jr.: Faith, Family and Football

2018 DE/T  Roger Clyde (RJ) Burns Jr.

rj-burnsWinterboro High School junior, DE/T, Roger Clyde (RJ) Burns, Jr. is inspired by his faith, family and his love for football.  The 6’1″, 245 lb, Alpine, Alabama native is also an honor student.  RJ (as he is called by his family) was inspired to play football by his uncle, former NFL player for the Philadephia Eagles, Linebacker, Derrick Oden. In pursuit of his goal of being a college football star, he has already visited Auburn University, Mississippi State, Samford University and The University of Alabama.  His uncle played under National Championship Coach, Gene Stallings at the University of Alabama. Burns plans to earn a degree in Sports Medicine.

When he is not hard at work in the classroom and on the football field, Burns can be found playing the drums in his family’s church or serving as the Junior Superintendent for Sunday School.  Along with his two sisters, he is the pride of his parents, Roger, Sr. and mom, Carmen. His mother beams when she says of her son, “His father and I are very proud of him. RJ is a very obedient and respectful young man.” On and off the field, Burns is showing the qualities and the character which will help him make all his goals possible.
