Sometimes we view things so much that we actually stop SEEING them. I’ve been to, and watched on television, hundreds of football games and I’ve seen hundreds of kickoffs and punts. But it wasn’t until recently while watching the film on 2019 K/P Jackson Garcia, that I actually watched the ball as it flew down the field. Talk about power! The force behind this young athlete’s kick is remarkable.
He’s 6’0″, 160 pounds with power behind his punt. He has an underlying technique that many have seen before but probably never equated it to that of a football player. Jackson doesn’t approach the football straight on, instead he approaches it at an angle. You normally see this maneuver in soccer. Why does he approach it that way? It’s simple, Jackson is also a soccer player. “I chose this position because I played soccer for most of my life,” he says. “My dad was a kicker so I decided I would try it.”
Jackson has been very successful in his stint as a kicker/punter for Brophy College Prep High School in Phoenix, AZ. How did he get this good? With continuous training he says. “I receive training from Sam Watts kicking, Alex Zendejas kicking, and Kohls kicking.” With training like this, an athlete can’t go wrong.
He won’t be sitting still this spring and summer. While some kids will be sunning at the beach during spring break, Jackson will be gearing up for his Junior season with the Broncos. Check out Jackson’s schedule below:
