The summers aren’t too hot and the winters aren’t too cold. They’re close to the city but just far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet of suburban life. And let’s not forget it has the perfect weather for fall football. These are all of the qualities that William Enneking loves about his home town of Sussex, Wisconsin. But he says the best part for him is having the privilege of being a part of a fantastic football program.
For many athletes, flag football is the beginning of their love for the sport. This holds true for the 6’3″ Tight End. He started playingfootball in first grade, and now a sophomore at Hamilton High School, he has been committed to improving his craft. Part of that improvement includes playing baseball in the off-season as a first baseman. “If I didn’t play multiple sports, I believe the motions of the sport would get repetitive and I would be more injury prone from working on only football or only baseball areas of the body.”
Playing sniffer back, tight end, fullback and wide receiver William shows his versatility much like his college model Jaylen Samuels who played tight end split out wide, and slot. “I like sniffer back more for its versatility and because I can take hand-offs, block or run a route,” he says. “I believe this is my greatest attribute as a football player and athlete in general.”
The Chargers’ season is over but not the brotherhood. “As a team, we came a long way from the beginning of the season, as most do,” he says. “But I think our team was a little different than most others.” He says their coach, John Damato, taught them to work together, inspired leadership, and brought them together as a team. “We may not have had the best season at 5-4,” he admits. “But I know I left that season with more brothers than I have ever had.”
