Trey Gory, Big Man on Campus

Trey Gory

By Joyce Oscar

More often than not, 6-foot, 255-pound Trey Gory is asked ” You’re a big boy, do you play football?” The answer is yes and he plays his position very well. Trey is an extraordinary talent and brings both size and unique athleticism at the Nose Guard position. As I watched his 2015-2016 highlights, he reminded me of Michael Carter of the San Francisco 49ers. He has good speed and is able to find the ball and make the tackle. If you think you’re getting away…think again.

Trey started playing football at the age of five. His fondest “on the field memory” is one of his little league coach whom they called Coach Chip. “When we would mess up, my coach, Coach Chip, would make us run and run around the field. Other boys would cry and Coach Chip would say ‘I don’t care if you’re crying as long as you’re running’, but I never cried.”

Being situated in the middle of all of the action, It is Trey’s responsibility to disrupt the opponent’s interior running game. He has a unique way of preparing mentally for this job. “I stare at the ground and be quite and try to get mad and listen to my music.” This tactic has worked for him so far so teams should beware.  He knows your next move, has the ability to fight off blocks and the quickness to knife through and hit the ball carrier.

Trey can’t imagine not playing football, he’s played it practically all of his life. His love and dedication for the game comes out in his plays on the field. He gives it his all because that’s all he knows to do.
