“Play hard… have fun… and everything else will fall into place”
He’s 6’0″ and 205 pounds. These are not the normal attributes you see in a running back, especially one that is only a freshman. Believe it or not Ethan “Easy E” Rogers was just a mere 4 pounds and 2 ounces when he entered this world. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii Ethan moved to Indiana with his family when he was only two-years-old. He discovered his love for football when he was in the 5th grade but it was not the easiest experience for him. “It was hard because I didn’t know what I was doing,” he admits. “I had never played before so I had to learn everything about the game.”
Well he didn’t have to learn alone. When his dad retired from the Marines, football was something that they could do together. “He puts a lot of time into me,” says Ethan. “We travel together and although he is my biggest critic, I know he is also always going to be one of my biggest supporters.”
For some, football is a stress reliever, a way for them to release some aggression. But for Ethan it’s for the competition and the fun. On the flip side, for his mom Renee, it wasn’t much fun. According to Ethan, it made her a bit nervous in the beginning but she’s gotten better over the years. “The possibility of him getting badly injured is what scared me the most,” she said. Although his mom was initially apprehensive about him playing, Ethan says his family is very supportive. “My mom and dad put a lot of time and money into making sure we become better at whatever we do. They say it’s an investment into my future which will payoff in the form of a free education if I do my part in the classroom and on the field.”
Ethan’s success is a representation of his hard work both in the classroom and on the field. And no matter what obstacle is thrown his way he says he won’t go down easy and he’ll never give up.
