Jaylon Swain: An Exemplary Scholar Athlete

By Joyce Oscar

The Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama is a landmark that is well-known to the racing world. Many flock to the Jaylon Swaintrack to feel the adrenaline rush from the engines and the smoked filled air.  But just ten miles away on a Friday night, there is a different rush happening. It’s 7:00 PM and the Fighting Tigers are lined up on the 50-yard-line ready for kickoff. Right there, front and center, is class of 2019 MLB Jaylon Swain.

Jaylon is a sophomore at Talladega County Central High School and also plays basketball. Aside from his athletic ability, he isn’t slacking at all in the academic department. He is a student ambassador and a member of the student leadership team. In addition he is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. Jaylon recently received the honor of being selected to become a member of the esteemed organization The National Society of High School Scholars. The organization recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.

It’s evident that Jaylon is committed to both his athletics and his academics. This commitment will definitely aide in his plans to attend the University of Alabama and pursue a career in sports medicine.
