Working Towards a Dream with Jaylen Burke

By Joyce Oscar

It’s important to have dreams and aspirations, However there’s an even more crucial part to any goal. In order to achieve those goals it takes dedication, perseverance, and emotional and mental strength. Jaylen Burke says “I’m a leader not a follower and I’m very smart. I can do anything anyone else can do but better as long as I put my mind to it.”

The season might be over but his “GRIND” continues. Each morning around 10:00 AM, during his winter break, Jaylen worked on his speed and agility. To him, there is no “downtime” only “grind-time”. He’s excited and preparing for spring football. He’s also preparing to hit a few camps as well.

We caught up with Jaylen to see how his first year of high school football turned out for him.

PB: “Now that the season is over, what would you say your most memorable moment was?”

Jaylen Burke: “My most memorable moment this past season was becoming Region Champs. It was the first time in school history.”

PB: “Wow! The first time in school history…that’s a major accomplishment, and a great way for you to start your high school career. Was high school football all that you expected? Was there anything that was harder than you anticipated?”

Jaylen Burke: “I noticed that in high school football the game speed is a lot faster.”

PB: “Now that your first season is behind you, what will you focus on for next year?”

Jaylen Burke: “Now that my first season is behind me I will be focusing on getting bigger faster and stronger.”
