Did you know that 87% of NFL draft picks played at least two sports during high school? Nearly 40% participated in at least three. What does that mean for 2017 Middle Linebacker Orion Drummond of Woodland Park, Colorado? It means that he’s definitely a stand-out athlete playing football, basketball and competing in track and field.
Coming into the 2016-17 season, it seems as if Orion plans to go out with a bang. It’s his last year with the Woodland Park Panthers and it’s all business for this amazing athlete. He returned to the field where he left off last season and with seven games left, Orion has already posted outstanding stats. He’s managed a total of 49 tackles of which 39 were solo, one sack and one fumble recovery. He’s averaging 12 tackles per game. His career stats aren’t too shabby either with 176 tackles of which 119 were solo, 2.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. These numbers have awarded him two Football Defensive Player of the Game recognitions, one Football Overall player of the game recognition and one Basketball Player of the Game recognition from MaxPreps.
It’s clear that Orion isn’t slacking in the athletic department, but he is academically solid as well and has satisfied all NCAA qualifications. He sees football as a tool that can be used to further his education. The goal is to obtain his Juris Doctor and he’s off to a great start.
It will be difficult to find a more dedicated athlete this season, someone who’s both passionate on and off the field.
