He’s an outdoors type of guy. He loves backpacking and takes fly fishing trips to wherever the fish take him. But backpacking and fly fishing isn’t all 18-year-old Gunner Gibson loves to do…he loves to play football. At the mere age of 5-years-old, Gunner’s father, Francis Gibson introduced him to the game of football. An just like any great father, he has been by his side all the way. “My dad has always been my inspiration,” he says. “He played collegiate football at the division-1 level. After he was a free agent and got picked up by the Dallas Cowboys. My goal is to be exactly like him. To work hard and get far in football.” And Gunner had definitely worked hard.
When he moved from Wood River High School in Hailey, ID to Salisbury High in Salisbury, CT, Gunner left a grand mark. His career totals were 73 receptions for 1,854 yards and 25 touchdowns. And although his high school career has been a good one, it has not been without its challenges, specifically with exposure. “Being from Idaho, where the competition isn’t at its best, makes it really hard to get recruited even if you have all the components of being a D1 or D1 AA linebacker.”
In Gunner’s first three games at Salisbury, the 6’3″ and 230 lb Wide Receiver/OLB earned “player of the game” recognition twice hailing in 2 touchdowns, 10 receptions, 2 blocked kicks, 1 interception and 15 tackles. Playing like that, exposure won’t be a problem because schools are bound to take notice.
