We’ve been following award winning QB/LB BJ Higgins all season. If you remember he ended this season with 1,200 passing yards 18 touchdowns and 120 rushing yards. When it comes to this sport, BJ is leaving no stones unturned. He’s been working with Dabney Methods Performance for over three years and says he’ll continue to focus and work hard.
But football is not all that BJ is working on. This year, for the first time, BJ is playing baseball. While playing around with a baseball in physical education class, coaches at Scoggins Middle School saw him pitch and began speaking to him about playing the game as a second sport. According to his father, Brian Higgins, it took BJ about two weeks to decide to play. He originally felt that the game was a little too slow. But after giving it thought and a little encouragement from Coach Sallis of the Texas Smash, BJ decided to join a team. “His first pitch was about 50 MPH,” says Brian. “He is currently playing right field and has Taylor Hearns, a current pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, as his mentor.”
BJ seems to be doing well with his new-found sport. He currently has 2 RBI’s for the season and is still currently seeking his first homerun. Perhaps we’ll be seeing BJ continue this natural transition with football and baseball when he enters high school. Check out what else BJ has going on this spring and summer.
